Indian Institute of Technology Madras is also known as IITM. It is a Government Engineering College located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was the third IIT College established by the Government of India in 1959.
IIT Madras has been ranked 264 in the QS World University Ranking of 2021 and ranked No.48 in Aisa and 18 among BRICS nations.
IIT Madras is a residential College which has nearly 550 faculties, 1250 administrative, 8000+ students and supporting staff and It is placed in a wooded land of around 250 hectares.
It offers the Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Research degree programs in various disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Science and Humanities. The offered courses are B.Tech in Chemical, Civil, Aerospace, BioTechnology, Computer Science, Mechanical, Engineering Physics, Electrical, Metallurgical and Material Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering etc., M.Tech in Aerospace, Biomedical, Biotechnology, Design Engineering, Environmental, Chemical, Control Systems and Chemical etc., B.Tech+M.Tech in Chemical, Computer Science, Civil+ Transportation, Electrical, etc., MBA, BA+MA, BS+MS, M.Sc, M.S and Ph.D in Management Studies, Chemistry, Fluid Mechanics etc.
It has 16 academic departments and some research centers of engineering and pure sciences along with 100 well-equipped laboratories.
IITM maintains the academic relation with many educational Institutes around the world through Faculty Exchange Programmes. It has also signed MOUs with many Foreign Universities. Some of the names of universities are Russian- Armenian University, Curtin University, Deakin University, Queensland University of Technology, Swinburne University etc
The Campus of IITM is well constructed and provides all major facilities inside the campus such as Smart Classrooms, Laboratories, Workshops, Medical Aid, Seminar Hall, Conference Hall, GYM, Auditorium, Sports facility, Central Library etc.
It conducts various activities like Shaastra (Annual Technical Fest), Saarang (Annual Social and Cultural Fest), Department festivals, Sports etc.
Industrial Tour, National/ International Conferences, Workshops are also organizes by the college.
There is a separate placement cell in the institute to offers many job opportunities to the student. Students can take benefit of it by just register themselves into the placement cells.
Many Top Notch companies visit the college for Campus Placement. The major recruiters are JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, UBS, Cypress, Futures Fist, Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd., Wipro Limited, Sandisk, Tower Research Capital, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Systems Insight, Dolcera, ICRA etc.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras Admission 2021
- Admission to B.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech courses will be done on the basis of score obtained in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Students must have completed Intermediate with PCM subjects and secured minimum 75% marks (10% of relaxation in marks for SC/ST category students).
- M.Tech admission will be done on the basis of score obtained in GATE. Students who have done B.Tech from any IITS with minimum 8 CGPA can take direct admission.
- M.Sc admission will be done through JAM entrance exam.
- Admission to MA course will be done as per the HSEE (Humanities and Social Science Entrance Exam). To appear in HSEE, students must have completed graduation with minimum 55% marks from recognized University.
- For Ph.D course, must have valid score in UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ JRF and for MS (By research), students must have valid score in GATE is compulsory.
- Students who have done B.Tech/ BE can apply directly to pursue Ph.D in Engineering or Science.
- To take admission in Research course in the field of Management, students must have completed MBA with valid JRD or NET score.
- Students who have obtained Post Graduation degree ten years earlier, such student’s selection will be done on the basis of score obtained in Written Test followed by Interview.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras Fee Structure:
- The college fee structure is ratified in Slabs. For the open category students who are above minimum income, need to pay the complete fee without any wavier. Students who belong to low income family and belong to backward caste can take the benefit of academic fee waiver along with a monthly scholarship.
- Students can also take the education loan from the banks and also they can take the benefit of Scholarships because there are many scholarship which provides to the students.
