Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility required for this course is master’s degree in relevant field from a recognized institution. Students should have M.Tech/M.E. degree in biomedical engineering to be eligible for this course. B.Tech and M.Tech should be passed with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
Admission Procedure:
Admission procedure varies from college to college. Most of the colleges conduct their own Ph.D entrance test for facilitating admission. To take admission, it is compulsory for the candidates to appear the exam. Direct entry to doctoral programmes is also done through GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). Candidates possessing the valid GATE scores are exempted from the entrance test.
Job Prospects:
- The biomedical engineer with Ph.D degree can work in research institutions and Universities. In India, there are many biomedical engineering research centres like Centre for Biomedical engineering IIT Delhi, Indian Institute of Science, School of Medical Science and Technology IIT Kharagpur, etc.
- Interested candidate can also work in biomedical engineering projects in National Physical Laboratories, NCBS Bangalore, etc.
- Besides this, job opportunity is always available in private sector organizations, hospitals, healthcare laboratories as well. After earning Ph.D degree, a candidate can run his/her own research lab. Also, a candidate can join prestigious private or government institution and become a professor.
