Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.[4] The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.[4] FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been taking many initiatives to create awareness of Healthy Food habits among the adults & Kids across India. Eat Right Creativity Challenge in one the initiatives in for the same. FSSAI I believe that food habits are formed in the very early stage of life and becomes difficult to change thereafter, so its focus on creating healthy eating habits focus on growing kids & young people. Therefore, school is an obvious place where healthy eating habits can be inculcated.
Food can even be used as an effective pedagogical tool. Young people are agents of change and their influence on their entire family could be leveraged to change the way people eat. In this context, the FSSAI had in September 2017 launched the SNF (Safe and Nutritious Food)@School initiative. Over 2700 schools are currently registered under this initiative. Such schools have trained and certified health and wellness coordinators to promote healthier eating habits among school children.
In the above backdrop and as a part of celebrations of the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, a National Poster Competition is planned. Through this poster competition, we would unleash creative talent of our young people and engage, excite and enable them to inculcate healthy dietary habits aligned with Gandhi Ji thoughts on food and nutrition that are now recognized to be based on robust science of nutrition. This would also help to give a boost to the on-going SNF@School initiative and help many more schools to have a long-term engagement with schools across the country.
